The apartment
The Artist's Apartment fills the upper two floors of Palazzo Corner Gheltoff Alvera, a 16th-century palazzo in the quiet parish of San Samuele, a short walk from Campo Santo Stefano and the Accademia Bridge. You can arrive by water taxi at the Grand Canal entrance or on foot through a leafy courtyard at the back.
Inside, the mood is warm and theatrical: beamed ceilings, painted wooden floors, oriental rugs, antiques and walls of books, in a palette of jade green, china blue and lacquer red. The living room has a balcony looking over the Grand Canal towards the Venetian skyline, and the vaulted dining room opens onto a terrace. There is a cosy sitting room for reading and an eat-in kitchen for anyone who enjoys cooking.
Three double or twin bedrooms, Rezzonico, Frari and Rialto, each have their own marble bathroom. A staircase leads up to the San Marco master suite, with sloping ceilings, a study corner, a day bed and its own shower room. From here you step out onto the altana, the traditional Venetian roof terrace, which looks across the Grand Canal: the place for an evening aperitivo by candlelight.
Please note that the owners do not accept children, pets or smokers. For a larger group, the apartment can be taken together with the adjoining Apartment Fenice, which sleeps seven, for up to fifteen guests in total.
