The apartment
Ca'nova, Venetian for 'new house', is a palazzo whose origins go back to the 12th century, when the Barozzi family built a crenellated house with two square towers. It was remodelled as a Renaissance palazzo in the 17th century, and in the early 19th century the Treves family asked the painter Giuseppe Borsato, who also decorated La Fenice, to embellish it. The palazzo has now been entirely renovated.
The Borsato apartment is on the third floor, reached by a newly installed lift, at the mouth of the Grand Canal opposite Santa Maria della Salute and the Punta della Dogana, and a few minutes' walk from Piazza San Marco and Palazzo Ducale. It is decorated in a pure, classic style with a contemporary twist: a living room with adjoining kitchen, a master bedroom with dressing room and shower room, and a twin bedroom with a sitting alcove and its own shower room.
Service is generous. There is daily maid service in the morning, a welcome hamper and fresh croissants each day, and the owner and the palazzo's secretary are on hand with advice and introductions. Guests share a convivial terrace, and arrangements with the Cipriani and the Excelsior Beach Club give access to the hotel pool and the beach at preferred rates. It suits one or two couples, and cots and highchairs can be provided.
