The apartment
Room with a View is on the second floor of Palazzo Accarigi in Via di Città, part of the ancient tower known as the Torre delle Sette Seghinelle. The Accarigi were among the great families of medieval Siena, part of the Government of the Nine that ruled the city in its golden age. Two large windows in each room face directly onto the Mossa, where the Palio starts and finishes, with the Torre del Mangia across the square.
The apartment was restored in 2013 and 2014 by master craftsmen and is filled with original frescoes, among them Cupid riding Pegasus, dragons and imaginary animals, carefully lit. Floors are bay oak parquet; silk, damask and fine linens pick up the colours of the walls and ceilings, and details such as hand-shaped brass handles and white porcelain switches have been chosen with care. New hardwood windows have high-quality soundproof glass.
The living room is made for reading or a glass of wine as the sun sets over the piazza, and the open-plan kitchen, with a wall of Rapolano stone, is well equipped. The four-poster bed is decorated with the emblem of San Bernardino, and the shower room is finished in Sienese travertine with Erbario toiletries. It is a place for a couple, whether for a few nights or a few weeks.
